About Our Parish

Welcome to Lideta Mariam Ethiopian Catholic Church in Toronto

Lideta Mariam is home to Ethiopian Canadian Catholics who live in the Greater Toronto Area. Our church is under the auspices of the Archdiocese of Toronto and we are also closely linked to the guardianship of the Ethiopian Catholic Church. Our church is also united in prayer and spiritual celebrations with sister Catholic (Ge’ez rite) churches and communities across North America.  

The church is led by Father Isaias Dulla with the support of the parish council. 

Ethiopian Catholic Ge’ez rite services have been a presence in Toronto beginning in the early 1990’s. We co-worshiped with our Ge’ez rite Eritrean brothers and sisters at St Clare Church and later at S. Nicolas Di Bari. We still share a strong communion with the Kidane-Meheret Eritrean Ge’ez Rite Church. 

Since the arrival of Father Isaias in 2009 as the pioneer pastor, Lideta Mariam Ge’ez Rite Ethiopian Catholic church has come a long way and grown to be a welcoming and mature church. Our church fulfills the full spectrum practice of the Catholic faith for its parishioners and guests, including our Children’s catechism and regular spiritual guidance. 

We warmly celebrate the Lideta Mariam (Nativity of Mary) annual commemoration in mid-May (coinciding with the Ethiopian calendar Genbot 1 celebration), when we are always graced with the presence of members of our sister Ge’ez right churches as well as our network of guests. 

We have been co-located with our Polish brethren at St. Mary’s Polish Catholic Church in west Toronto since 2009.
