First Reading
2 Corinthians 1: 13-24
For we write none other things unto you, than what ye read or acknowledge; and I trust
ye shall acknowledge even to the end; As also ye have acknowledged us in part, that we
are your rejoicing, even as ye also are ours in the day of the Lord Jesus. And in this
confidence, I was minded to come unto you before, that ye might have a second benefit;
And to pass by you into Macedonia, and to come again out of Macedonia unto you, and
of you to be brought on my way toward Judaea. When I therefore was thus minded, did
I use lightness? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that
with me there should be yea yea, and nay nay? But as God is true, our word toward you
was not yea and nay. For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by
us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea.
For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by
us. Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; Who
hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts. Moreover, I call
God for a record upon my soul, that to spare you I came not as yet unto Corinth. Not for
that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for by faith ye stand.
Second Reading
1 John 2:22-29
Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth
the Father and the Son. Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: but
he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also. Let that therefore abide in you,
which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the
beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father. And
this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life. These things have I
written unto you concerning them that seduce you. But the anointing which ye have
received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the
same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath
taught you, ye shall abide in him. And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he
shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming. If
ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of
him.
Gospel
Luke 2: 42-52
And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the
feast. And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried
behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it. But they, supposing him
to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their
kinsfolk and acquaintance. And when they found him not, they turned back again
to Jerusalem, seeking him. And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in
the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them
questions. And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.
And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why
hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. And
he said unto them, how is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my
Father's business? And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.
And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but
his mother kept all these sayings in her heart. And Jesus increased in wisdom and
stature, and in favour with God and man.
